Captain America Is A Hero Reborn
As a long-time comic book fan, the Captain caught my attention later than most of the other titles in my collection. He marched in and out of several X-Men storyline crossovers, but I didn’t make a move to follow him any further until I was fifteen years old. I was working at a local amusement park and made a friend that was a huge Cap fan. He introduced me to the Heroes Reborn story, and I was hooked at issue 1. By eighteen, Captain America was a mainstay pull from the comic shop.
How could I not love that a super soldier experiment actually went right? I was impressed by Captain America’s ability to always make the moral choice and hold humans to a high standard. From challenging Hitler to Red Skull, from talking Hulk to Thor down from violence, from shutting up Iron Man to Antman – he is a one-of-a-kind hero.
From the start of his comic book in 1940 to his rebirth in 1964, the journey has been vast. To stay an icon in a modern landscape that is filled with icons is an extraordinary feat for this superhero. Check out some of the great Cap comics and form your own memories of the “first” Avenger.
